This site is for slow travelers and would-be islanders but also for nature lovers, dreamers, and anyone drawn to places that still feel like the edge of the world.

Nine Islands Azores grew out of my experience of living in the islands for over seven years. Dramatic vistas may draw you in, but the rhythms of daily life — the sea and her many moods, the ever-changing landscape, the different island communities and their local traditions — are what truly shape the experience of being here.

My aim is to provide detailed information to help visitors and residents navigate all nine islands. It’s a growing body of information on the islands’ history, flora, fauna, cuisine, culture, local legends and stories and even weather quirks.

What you’ll find here are detailed island guides, thoughtful itineraries, travel logistics explained simply, the and descriptions of the practical realities of life here — all embedded in the local cultural context and peppered with everyday observations.
